Regarding the first day of shooting, director Darko Bajic said that “the dramatic text of Milovan Vitezovic is not only an excellent screenplay for the film, which, while respecting the genre of biographically historical film, illuminates a part of Serbian history, it is also a monumental drama about the unwavering belief in one’s ideals. Persistence in the struggle to preserve the tradition and uniqueness of the Serbian people is the light that illuminates and inspires future generations. The film about Svetozar Miletic is a story of a fighter who seeks justice for his people, but also of the influence of the powerful to create and transgress history. From pioneers in the fight for the emancipation of women, both in the Balkans and in the world, Milica’s (Svetozars daughter) perspective brings a more layered and deeper reflection on the epoch and social relations of the 19th century, which are the foundations of the modern Serbian state.
The film will be filmed for seven weeks at locations in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci, Vrsac, Subotica and Sombor, and will premiere in May 2020 in Novi Sad.
